A circuit Court Judge in Orangeburg, Thomasena Adams, has issued a temporary restraining order against SC Gov Henry McMaster and his plans to tap into the state's Safe Access to Flexible Education (SAFE) Grants program to give Private Charter schools 32 million dollars. The plan to do so is on hold until a hearing that's scheduled for Wednesday. The Governor has a total of $48 million from federal CARES Act funding he can give out as emergency education relief as part of the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund. In the complaint she states "No money shall be paid from public funds nor shall the credit of the State or any of its political subdivisions be used for the direct benefit of any religious or other private educational institution."
