Thirty one year old Crystal Hill of Augusta was arrested Monday and charged with five counts of deprivation of a minor after her five children were found to be living in deplorable conditions.
According Richmond County Sheriff's Office arrest warrants, a deputy observed filth, no running water, dried old food, no smoke detectors and open blad fan running with no cover and a toilet that had been filled with feces inside an apartment on the 1400 block of Brown Street.
The landlord told deputies that the previous tenant moved out of the home, but allowed his girlfriend and five children to stay until she could move into her own apartment.
Code enforcement was called to condemn the residence and DFACS was called to help with the children.
The children were eventually released into the custody of Hill's mother and others who were friends.
