Alvin Hester, Jr. is the man accused of killing Richmond County Sheriff's Office Investigator Cecil Ridley

Alvin Hester, Jr. is the man accused of killing Richmond County Sheriff's Office Investigator Cecil Ridley. He was booked last week after he regained consciousness following a brief stay in the hospital to recover from wounds sustained in the shooting that killed Ridley.

Ridley was performing patrols last Tuesday night with other narcotic officers at an Augusta convenience store when he was shot, by Hester, according to reports.

Investigator Cecil Ridley said to be conducting proactive patrols with other members of the narcotics unit in response to recent gun violence in Augusta. The investigators observed a group of individuals loitering in front of the convenience store and attempted to contact them.

Upon seeing the investigators one of the subjects walked into the store but was approached by a deputy inside. He began walking back outside when he saw Investigator Ridley walking into the store. The man immediately opened fire, striking and killing Investigator Ridley.

Other deputies returned fire as he fled into the parking lot, wounding him, before taking him into custody. Reports also say the subject who shot Investigator Ridley was also on parole for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Richmond County Sheriff's Office Investigator Cecil Ridley was 51 years old.

The funeral procession will travel westbound on Washington Road, left onto Columbia Road, left onto Belair Road to Wrightsboro Road, and right onto Wrightsboro Road to Bellevue.

The suspect Alvin Hester, Jr. appeared in court today to answer for the murder charge. He was denied bond.

Investigator Cecil Ridley's funeral is Tuesday, November 26th, 11 a.m. at Warren Baptist Church on Washington Road.

Following the funeral, Ridley will be escorted with full law enforcement honors to Bellevue Memorial Gardens & Chapel on Wrightsboro Road.
